DE&I at Actabl: 2023 Year in Review

2023 was an incredible year for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Actabl, and we’re excited to share this recap with you. While being so proud of what we have achieved, we are incredibly aware of the improvements we can continue to make as we step into 2024. 

We kicked off the year in February with Black History Month. We hosted some amazing events and took the opportunity to encourage some uncomfortable conversations. We used weekly facts to teach us more about how Black History Month is celebrated around the world, we tested our knowledge with a fun quiz and wrapped up the activities with a Book Club discussion about “The Invisible Man” by Ralph Ellison. Plus, we can’t forget about our Educational Library with spotlights, books, movies, articles, documentaries, and videos.

March was all about Women’s History Month! We had a full calendar of activities and initiatives throughout the month, including our “Weekly Actabl Woman Spotlight”, the International Women’s Day Celebration on March 8th, and an empowering conversation with Best-Selling Author, Tiah Lewis, on March 20th, where we talked about “Deconstructing the ‘’Superwoman’’: The Realities of Working Moms”.

In April we focused on acknowledging and recognizing diversity. One of the things that makes Actabl so special is the people. We have employees in more than 27 states across the US and more than 18 countries worldwide. We are diverse and that is what makes us strong! We spent time together during Snack and Learn on April 6th, and LifeLabs ‘Behaviors of Inclusion Workshop on April 20th.

In May, we celebrated Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Heritage (APIDA) to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions, achievements, and the rich cultural diversity of these individuals. The committee put together some resources that include historical facts, books, music, TV shows, and much more. We celebrated throughout the month with a Dumpling Making Class on May 9th, an APIDA celebration on May 18th, and a relaxing Yoga Session on May 25th. 

June kicked off our Awareness, Celebration & Education: Pride Month 2023. Exciting events included our most popular Movie Night on June 15th. We also held a discussion-driven Ally Workshop that opened up deep conversations filled with history, stories, and statistics to strengthen our knowledge about how to be an Ally, not just at Actabl but in our global community. We concluded the activities for the month with a Pride Happy Hour and celebrated with a virtual pride parade.

From the 15th of September until the 15th of October, we celebrated National Hispanic Heritage Month. The theme for 2023 was Latinos: Driving Prosperity, Power and Progress in America. We played Lotería together, took time to learn Spanish, and mastered how to make guacamole and sangría.

At Actabl We believe in the importance of Mental Health all year round, for all team members. That’s why we put together this guide of resources to support our team.

As our committee and our company are growing and we continue to learn, we are constantly reassessing naming conventions, the inclusivity of our events, and ways we can continue to expand our reach to our global workforce. We are excited to showcase our calendar for 2024 to involve more industry speakers and make DE&I at Actabl bigger and better than ever.
