Welcoming Joseph Benjamin, Actabl’s New Chief Technology Officer

Joseph Benjamin recently joined Actabl as our new Chief Technology Officer (CTO).

Joseph brings decades of experience leading large-scale technology organizations, integrating platforms, and building high-performing global teams. He has helped companies move through the exact scaling chapter Actabl is entering now: integrating multiple product lines and aligning global engineering teams for growth.

At DataLogix, he served as the founding CTO, growing the company before its acquisition by Oracle for $1.2 billion. At Oracle Data Cloud, he scaled a global engineering team to 730 people, supporting over $500 million in revenue. Later, at Behavox, he tripled revenue in three years while building AI and machine learning infrastructure. Most recently, at iCIMS, he led a 430-person team while optimizing over $40 million in cloud infrastructure.

This blend of startup scrappiness and enterprise-scale leadership makes Joseph the right fit for Actabl’s next chapter. As we bring together multiple platforms and scale our technology to serve more hotels worldwide, Joseph will lead Engineering, Platform Engineering, Data and Analytics, Integrations, DevOps, and QA.

To introduce Joseph to the broader community, CEO Steven Moore sat down with him for a fireside chat about his career, his reasons for joining Actabl, and what excites him about the future of hospitality technology.

Steven Moore: Welcome, Joseph. Firstly, tell us a little bit about your career journey before Actabl.

Joseph Benjamin: I've been very fortunate in my career, with lots of great experiences, from smaller start-ups to larger corporations. I was the founding CTO of DataLogix, which we built from zero to acquisition by Oracle. I’ve spent time in larger companies with multinational teams. I've also had the opportunity to explore various industries. I’ve worked in digital advertising, fintech, and HR tech. I find that keeps it fresh and new for me. And now, I am new to the hospitality industry. However, many of the core fundamentals for building great software remain the same, and I'm excited to bring that expertise here. 

Steven: Tell us a little bit about what you enjoy outside of work.

Joseph: I'm originally from California, from the San Francisco Bay Area. Now, I live in Boulder, Colorado. I have a daughter and two poodles, who keep me busy. I'm very active. I love snowboarding, biking, yoga, hiking, and I’ve recently taken up pickleball; basically, anything outside.  

I also love cooking and traveling. I'm a bit of a history nerd, and I get a lot of harassment from my daughter about that!

Steven: What attracted you to Actabl?

Joseph: It's funny, because Actabl wasn't in the range of companies that I was looking at. But, at this point in my career, who you work with is so critical. I just really enjoyed getting to know everyone I met as part of the interview process. As I continued to learn more about the company and get to know all of you, I could see that Actabl is in a great position: the company is performing well and has a lot of potential to do even better, which is great.

The acquisitions strategy of bringing four companies together under one platform made sense to me. I saw an opportunity to apply my experience integrating teams and systems at scale. And personally, being Denver-based, I was excited to get back into an office environment and collaborate in person again.

There's a huge opportunity here. I feel like I can make a positive impact and contribute to that.

Steven: You jumped right into HITEC almost immediately. What did you take away from that experience?

Joseph: I'm so glad I had the opportunity to attend HITEC, and I'm especially glad I was able to do so early in my Actabl journey. As someone who's not from the hospitality industry, it was a great immersion for me to gain a better sense of who our partners are and who our competitors are. And meeting with some of our key customers was great.

I love learning. I’m a very curious person by nature, and so it was just a great learning experience for me.

I realised what a close-knit, welcoming group of people the hospitality industry is, whether it was my new teammates, our customers, or others from the industry.

Steven: Finally, what excites you the most about joining Actabl?

Joseph: I'm excited to be here. And as I'm starting to dig in, I see a lot of opportunity and potential for us as a company, whether in engineering, technology, or products, to help hotels unlock more value through data and innovation. I’m excited by the opportunity to contribute my experience and help take Actabl to the next level, while empowering Actabl employees to reach their full potential.
